Procurement Manager
Join us as our Procurement Manager in Durban, where you’ll drive the efficient flow of materials that keeps our business moving.
In this role, you’ll take ownership of creating smart demand plans, keeping SSL targets on track, and adapting quickly to changes in customer needs. You’ll collaborate closely with our commercial, sales, and technical teams to make sure supply always meets demand. With responsibility for inventory control and stock management, you’ll play a vital role in building efficiency, accuracy, and reliability across our operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
About the role:
• Drive accurate forecasting by managing and interpreting data, aligning demand and supply to support business needs.
• Lead and deliver projects that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and introduce innovative concepts that add value.
• Manage and motivate a small team, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
• Demonstrate excellent skills in SAP or ERP and other IT systems, using them effectively to support decision-making.
• Ensure records and data are maintained to the highest standards, with accuracy and timeliness at the core.
• Own and lead procurement initiatives to optimize inventory levels, achieving Day-on-Hand Inventory targets.
• Continuously review and enhance systems and processes, recommending and implementing improvements that drive operational excellence.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Your skills and experience:
• Proven experience in supply chain and/or procurement in a manufacturing environment.
• Industry knowledge of chemical manufacturing is a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with local and international suppliers, service providers, and logistics processes.
• Strong understanding of MRP processes and inventory management best practices.
• Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, able to collaborate across teams and regions.
• Skilled in data analysis and reporting, with advanced Excel capability.
• Demonstrable experience with SAP or a similar ERP system
• Tech-savvy, comfortable using IT systems to extract, interpret, and present data.
